Topbox July 2016 Review

Saturday, July 23, 2016

Topbox is a Canadian-based monthly beauty subscription service. It costs $12/month and offers free shipping. They send four beauty products per month unless you decide to choose a special privé box which features products from a specific brand.

I actually cancelled my Topbox subscription after receiving my box last month but July's box had already been paid for at that point. Of course, my July box is the best one I've gotten yet and kind of made me regret cancelling, especially because I wasn't impressed with my Ipsy bag this month. Read below to find out what I received in my July Topbox!

GlamGlow Flashmud Brightening Treatment | I love receiving GlamGlow products in subscription boxes because they are super expensive to buy and this is a great way to test them out. I actually haven't tried this one yet but it is supposed to brighten your skin for a more youthful and radiant look. I'm excited to give it a try! Approximate sample value: $23 (crazy but like I said, this stuff is expensive!).

Estée Lauder Sumptuous Knockout Mascara | I also love receiving mascara in my beauty boxes! It's one of my favourite beauty products and I love trying different brands. This one is good - nothing special, but definitely wearable. It does a decent job of lengthening my lashes and doesn't flake or smudge. The formula is neither too wet nor dry but can be a bit clumpy. I also appreciate that this is a new product and not something that has been discontinued. Approximate sample value: $17.55.

Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss | When I first seen the Bare Minerals box, I was really hoping it was one of the Marvellous Moxie lipsticks as I love those! However, I was surprisingly impressed with the lipgloss. I'm not usually a fan of lipgloss but this one is a nice medium pink color with sheer-to-medium coverage. It isn't overly sticky and has a minty taste with a cooling effect on the lips that lasts for quite some time! (Honestly, an hour after I applied it, my lips still felt cool). I usually give away any lip glosses that I receive but I will definitely be keeping this one for myself. Approximate sample value: $11.50.

Revlon Uniq All in One Coconut Hair Treatment | This smells nice (like sunblock) and is supposed to soothe frizz, prevent split ends, provide heat protection and more. However, it is a thicker serum that looks like lotion in the bottle and therefore does not spray easily through the nozzle. I will definitely give the product a try but the packaging isn't great! Approximate sample value: $1.00.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Gel Lip LinerFor the month of July, we received a bonus lip liner as compensation for late shipping due to the potential Canada Post strike. Sadly, it's the one product that will definitely be a toss for me. I hate receiving lip liners because I never use them but as if that wasn't bad enough, I received the color "Cinnamon" which is a "medium plum brown". I will pass this on to someone else as I will never use it. Erin actually gave hers a try and wasn't a fan of the product either. Approximate sample value: $18.00 (full size).

Top: Bellapierre Cosmetics lip liner in "Cinnamon"
Bottom: Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie lip gloss in "Rebel"

I only received one full-size product this month and it was a dud, but I really enjoyed my other four products so overall, this was a win! Depending on how things progress with my Ipsy subscription, I may re-subscribe to Topbox, especially if they keep producing boxes like this one! The total approximate value was $71.05 which is amazing considering I only paid $14 for the box!

If you subscribe to Topbox, what did you think of your box this month?

Topbox June 2016 Review

Tuesday, June 21, 2016

Topbox is a Canadian-based monthly beauty subscription service. It costs $12/month and offers free shipping. They send four beauty products per month, unless you decide to choose a special privé box. Here is a look at what I received in my June 2016 Topbox!

Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo | I've been wanting to try this dry shampoo forever and it has definitely met my expectations. In fact, this might be a new HG product! Of course, Sephora doesn't sell this product in Canada, which makes it very difficult (and expensive) to obtain here. I have a feeling that I will be willing to pay whatever it takes though because it's that good. It smells amazing, instantly makes my hair look non-greasy and gives me volume, plus the packaging is gorgeous. Approximate sample value: $4.25.

Pur-lisse Blue Lotus & White Tea Treatment Sheet Mask | This mask claims to leave skin bright and firm, as well as improve the overall texture of your skin. I haven't used this yet so I can't comment on how well it works, but I do love receiving sheet masks in my bags so I am pleased with this. Approximate sample value: $10 (full size).

O.R.G. Skincare Mineral Peel Face | This is an enzyme exfoliant that extracts dermal debris and dead skin for brighter, softer skin. I also haven't tried this just yet but I am very intrigued! It has a lot of good reviews on the website, so I am hopeful. I am all about products that claim to make my skin glow! Approximate sample value: $4.50.

Mirabella Pearls & Pastels Eyeshadow Pigment in "Refreshmint" | I received this product in my most recent Luxe Box and I wasn't happy about it then so I'm definitely not happy to see it again. I actually gave away the first one but apparently these companies are determined that I should own this product. Approximate sample value: Originally $28, on sale for $10 (full size).

The total value of this month's Topbox is $28.75, which isn't overly high but I am pleased with three of the four products. However, I decided to cancel my Topbox subscription for now and I signed up with Ipsy again. Even though I expected some repetition of products between Topbox and Luxe Box when they merged, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt as they claimed they would have "separate operations". But after receiving multiple repeat products between the two boxes, I decided to cancel both. I may re-subscribe to Topbox again in the future but I am done for now. Hopefully I will have better luck with Ipsy!

Topbox May 2016 Review

Thursday, May 26, 2016

Topbox is a Canadian-based monthly beauty subscription service. It costs $12/month and offers free shipping. They send four beauty products per month, unless you decide to choose a special privé box. Here is a look at what I received in my May 2016 Topbox!

Novex Brazillian Keratin Deep Conditioning Hair Mask | This is the only product that I haven't tried yet as I'm more likely to use a deep conditioning mask when I am taking a bath as opposed to a shower, due to the fact that it is supposed to be left on for 15 minutes. However, it does state that it could also be left on for 3 minutes and used as a regular conditioner. It smells nice, like something you would smell in a salon, with a hint of nutty scent. This is a good sample size for someone like myself with fine, thin hair as I will definitely get a few uses out of it. Approximate sample value: $3.30.

The Face Shop Collagen Pomegranate Pack | This is a nighttime cream that you apply to your skin before bed. I've been intrigued by The Face Shop for quite some time now as I've heard a lot of great things about their sheet masks, so I was excited to see this in my bag! This has a lovely, not-too-strong pomegranate scent. It isn't a thick cream but applies nicely to the skin. I was actually very impressed with this product as my face looked super glowy this morning after only using it twice! I definitely want to check out more products from this brand. Topbox included a 15% off (plus a free sheet mask) coupon for The Face Shop, however, it is sadly only available for use in-store and the closest store is in Quebec. Approximate sample value: $4.05.

Skinfix Hand Repair Cream | I remember a ton of people raving about this hand cream a while ago. Trust me when I say this is a super thick cream. My hands initially feel greasy when this is applied but that eventually disappears. It is an unscented cream and contains 1% colloidal oatmeal which is supposed to help eczema, dermatitis and extreme dryness. As I have none of those problems (except dry skin in the winter), I cannot speak to its ability to live up to the claims. For me, it's a good cream to use at work as it's unscented and will help prevent my skin from drying out with all the hand sanitizer I use. Topbox included a coupon for $5 off orders over $50 as well. Approximate sample value: $17.99.

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara | I love getting mascara samples so I was thrilled to see this in my bag this month! However, I was sorely disappointed the first time I used it as the product left my eyelashes clumpy. I decided to give it another chance and oddly enough, I had no issues the second or third time. On the contrary, I actually really enjoyed it! My lashes no longer looked clumpy and it did a great job of thickening and lengthening them. Approximate sample value: $10.

The approximate value of this month's box is $35.34 which is less than previous months but overall, I am still pleased with the products. This box contained one full size product and three sample sized products, as well as two coupons. If you'd like to sign up for Topbox, you can use my referral code here to bypass the wait list.

Topbox April 2016 Review

Friday, April 22, 2016

Topbox is a Canadian-based monthly beauty subscription service. It costs $12/month and offers free shipping. They send four beauty products per month, unless you decide to choose a special privé box. Here is a look at what I received in my April 2016 Topbox!

Topbox April 2016 Review

Ofra Cosmetics Lipliner | I received this in the color "Wine" and it is just okay. It is a deep, brownish-pink color, which doesn't really match the name and I'm not sure how much use I will actually get out of it. It may match one or two of my lipsticks, but I tend to wear bright colors usually. I haven't tested this to see how long-lasting it is but when I did apply it to test out the color, it didn't apply very smoothly on my lips. Approximate sample value: $17.25 (full size).

Pur-Lisse Blue Lotus 4-in-1 Eye Adore Serum | This product claims to hydrate, firm, brighten and decrease under eye puffiness. I am eager to try this out because as I've frequently mentioned, I have dark under eye circles 24/7. It is a small sample but I find that a little goes a long way when it comes to under eye products. Approximate sample value: $30.

DDM Cosmetics Illuminate Light-Up Lip Gloss | Ugh, another lip gloss. This is in the color "Rio" which is a shimmery peach color. Like the Model Co lipgloss that I received in my March Topbox, this lipgloss has a mirror on the side of the tube, which I do enjoy, but this lip gloss actually has an LED light-up applicator as well (though I'm not really sure what purpose it serves). The lip gloss smells like cake batter but overall, is way to glittery for me. I will probably pass this along to someone younger. Approximate sample value: $15 (full size).

Kerastase Elixir Oleo-Complexe Replenishing and Beautifying Scented Oil | This is a hair oil formulated for color-treated hair. I am a bit hesitant to apply oil to my hair as it tends to be on the oily side, but I will use a little when my hair is curled to minimize frizz. I haven't tried this yet but the sample is huge! Approximate sample value: $22.

Schick Hydro Silk Razor | This was a bonus item that was included this month. It is a full size razor, which is not something I really need but there is no harm in having extra on hand. It also came with a $5 off coupon for any Schick Hydro Silk refills. Approximate sample value: $10 (full size).

This month's Topbox included four items plus a bonus item, three of which were full size products. The value of the box is $94.25, which is great, but the products were a miss for me. There was a nice variety of products but overall, I was disappointed in this box. I don't like the lip gloss, and I am not a fan of the lip liner color. I will keep my subscription for another month, but if I am disappointed next month then I may cancel again.
