Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick Review

Make Up For Ever recently launched their new Artist Rouge lipstick collection, featuring 45 show-stopping shades in a variety of cream and matte finishes. There are 14 matte shades and 31 cream shades in the collection and the colors range from traditional reds and pinks to mint green, turquoise, and lilac. The Make Up For Ever team was kind enough to send me two lipsticks from their new collection to review and share with you guys.

First of all, the packaging is super sleek and simple. The lipsticks are in a black matte bullet with the finish and the color number on the bottom. However, if you have many of these, I feel like you would either need to memorize the numbers or have to pull the cover off to check the color. Personally, I prefer when lipsticks are named similar to their color, or at least have a color swatch on the bottom of the tube. I do think that these look very professional though. The inside of the tube is silver on the bottom with "Make Up For Ever" embossed. The cover snaps onto to the tube securely which means that I don't have to worry about it falling off in my purse!

The formula of these lipsticks is amazing. They contain both macadamia and mallow oil, which leaves your lips super moisturized. Even the matte formula feels incredibly comfortable to wear and not drying at all! Make Up For Ever states that the cream formula can get 8 hours of wear, while the matte can provide 10 hours, however, I have to disagree with this. I can get about 2-3 hours of wear without touching up, however, I find that it begins to fade after that, as well as after eating or drinking. The color does fade nicely and evenly on the lips, however, which is a perk.

The lipstick itself has a unique tear-shaped tip which is designed for easy application of the product, no matter your lip shape. I can say that it works effectively as the lipstick was easy to apply without making a mess, even without lip liner. The pigmentation of these lipsticks is also incredible, with 25% more pigment than the last generation of the Rouge Artist Intense lipsticks.

Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipstick M300 C302

I received the colors C302 (beige coral) and M300 (red orange). I wasn't sure about the salmon-pink C302 at first because it seems a bit pale on my lips in person but after swatching it and taking a photo, I actually like it. It would make a nice spring color. The second color, M300 is not a color I would choose for myself and unfortunately, the orange undertones in this lipstick do not agree with my coloring. I will be passing this one along to a friend but only because the color isn't for me, as I love the formula!

Pros:

  • Sleek and secure packaging
  • Excellent color range
  • Extremely comfortable formula
  • High pigmentation
  • Unique shaped tip for easy application

Cons:

  • Wear time is about 2-3 hours before needing touch-ups
  • Unable to determine shade from outside of lipstick tube (without memorizing numbers)

Overall, I would recommend picking up these lipsticks to try (especially the matte formula) if you are looking for a comfortable, moisturizing lipstick. If you are looking for something long-lasting, I would skip these. Be sure to leave a comment below and let me know if you've tried the new Artist Rouge lipstick line!

The Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge lipstick retails for $27 and is available exclusively at Sephora online and in Sephora stores across Canada and the U.S.

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Review and Swatches

News flash! You need to seriously run, not walk, and pick up the new AquaXL Eye Pencils by Make Up For Ever. I'll be honest, I have an old sample of their Aqua Eyes eyeliner and I am not a huge fan. But the new AquaXL eye pencils? They are worth every pretty penny!

Make Up For Ever Aqua XL Eye Pencil Review

The AquaXL eye pencils were created in collaboration with Charli XCX, most famously known for her song "Boom Clap" but is featured on one of my personal favourites, "I Love It" by Icona Pop.  The collection contains twenty shades in five different finishes - matte, diamond, satin, iridescent and metallic and include every color from basic brown and black to Tiffany blue and lilac purple.  They are also waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof and transfer-proof, while providing intense pigmentation and comfortable wear.

The formula of the pencils is amazing - it is creamy and smooth and literally glides across the eyelid. The only downside of this is that it doesn't stay sharp for long as it basically melts when pressed into the skin. Nothing that a pencil sharpener can't fix though (I have this one and love it!). Aside from the amazing formula, this eyeliner also offers excellent staying power. I work 12-hour shifts and it lasts all day without smudging! I actually have to work hard to remove it at the end of the day. Luckily, the Make Up For Ever Sens'Eye Waterproof Sensitive Eye Cleanser does a great job of removing my waterproof makeup without burning my sensitive eyes.

The Make Up For Ever AquaXL Eye Pencils are available for purchase at here and here and in Sephora stores across Canada for $25 each. If you are a VIB Rouge at Sephora, you can also buy the Charli XCX Festival Fave 4-pack for a steal at $58!

Review: Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Brow Pencil & Lip Review

Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Brow and Lip Review

Make Up For Ever recently launched their new Pro Sculpting Collection which includes a Pro Sculpting face palette, brow pencil, and lip tool. Combined, these products are used to enhance your features using light and shadow techniques. When I was contacted by a member of the Make Up For Ever team asking if I'd like to try out the products, I didn't even hesitate to say yes! Make Up For Ever is one of my favourite makeup brands, so I was super grateful for the opportunity.

I opted not to receive the contour palette as I feel like I am fairly new to the art of contouring and it isn't something that I do on a regular basis. However, for those of you who are interested, the Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Face Palette is available in four colors: light (20), medium (30), tan (40) and dark (50). Each palette includes a cream highlight, shimmer, contour and blush shade. After watching Nancy's and Ashlee's reviews of the palette, I am totally regretting not getting one to try as it looks super nice and easy to use. For those of you who prefer the idea of cream products as opposed to powder for contouring, this would be a great palette for you to check out. The palette is available for purchase at Sephora and Make Up For Ever Canada for $54 CAN.

Next up is the Pro Sculpting Brow Pencil, which is a 3-in-1 tool that combines a beveled brow color with a bristle brush for grooming and (my favourite part!) a secret highlighter tool for defining and illuminating arches! This product is available in five shades - blonde (10), dark blonde (20), brown (30), dark brown (40), and brown black (50). I received the shade blonde (10) and my only problem with the color is that it looks a bit orange under certain lighting. However, I didn't notice it once I applied it to my eyebrows, just on the swatch. Due to the waxy formula, this product doesn't budge on your eyebrows! The highlight shade is a light cream-colored matte which pairs beautifully with the brow color. This product retails for $32 CAN at Sephora and Make Up For Ever Canada.

Last but not least is the Pro Sculpting Lip, which is similar to the brow pencil in that it is a 2-in-1 combination tool, combining both a lip color and highlighter. Make Up For Ever describes this lip product as a satin finish but I find that it tends to look more of a semi-matte on the lips. However, it is super comfortable and not drying at all. The pigment is amazing and the color lasts for hours (it honestly took like three days for the swatch to come off my hand, even with frequency handwashing!). I received this in the color "Rust" (11) but it is available in three other shades - Rosewood (10), Carmine Red (40) and Purple (50). Like the brow pencil, this lip color includes a highlighter on the opposite end and each shade has a different color highlighter. The highlighter with Rust is a white, shimmery color. Make Up For Ever recommends using the highlighter at the center of the lips to create volume, but it would also work well as a highlight at the cupid's bow. This product is available at Sephora and Make Up For Ever Canada for $32 CAN.

Overall, I am really impressed with the new Pro Sculpting line from Make Up For Ever and I highly recommend that you check it out! I am definitely adding the shades "Rosewood" and "Purple" to my wishlist and I will certainly be checking out the palette during my next visit to Sephora.
